Election results
Despite the disagreements between parties, and some unpleasant verbal encounters that are not rare in electoral times; the elections were as smooth as expected with high participation of voters. Although there are still some pending results, like the one in Georgia in which one candidate is unwilling to concede, and in Florida in which a vote recount seems necessary because of the minimal difference in votes between Republican Rick Scott and Democrat Bill Nelson; everything else is already set. Republicans keep the Senate with a difference of 51 – 44 over Democrats, and the Democrats take over the House of Representatives with a difference of 223 – 197 over Republicans. With a now divided Congress, it will be interesting to follow the development of some policies that were planned before the elections, like that of immigration, and the construction of the wall.
